a) On ViewTube, creators earn on average $0.018 per view. If Alex usually makes $3000 per month at their part-time job, how many views will their ViewTube videos need to get for Alex to earn an equivalent income?
b) ViewTube’s algorithm doesn’t promote every video equally. Suppose Alex’s videos get an average of 500 views per day. How long will it take for Alex to earn $3000 from ViewTube? (Assume each month has exactly 30 days for this calculation.)
c) Alex is considering quitting their part-time job to focus on content creation full-time. If they want to earn $36,000 per year (equivalent to $3000 per month) from ViewTube, and they post one video per day, how many views does each video need to average? (Use 365 days for this calculation.)
a) To calculate the number of views needed:
$3000 = number of views × $0.018
Number of views = $3000 ÷ $0.018 = 166,666.67
Rounding up (since partial views don’t count), Alex needs 166,667 views to match their part-time job income.
b) To calculate how long it will take to earn $3000:
Views needed = 166,667 (from part a)
Days needed = 166,667 ÷ 500 views per day = 333.334 days
Months = 333.334 ÷ 30 = 11.11 months
It will take approximately 11 months and 3 days (0.11 months × 30 days ≈ 3 days) for Alex to earn $3000 from ViewTube.
c) To calculate the average views needed per video for full-time income:
Yearly income goal = $36,000
Views needed per year = $36,000 ÷ $0.018 = 2,000,000 views
Average views per video = 2,000,000 ÷ 365 = 5,479.45
Rounding up, each video needs to average 5,480 views for Alex to earn $36,000 per year.
