Curriculum Update: Marketing to Consciousness (Grades 8–12)

Marketing to Consciousness is now complete across all five grades, Grade 8 through Grade 12. Here’s what it is, where it fits, and why it’s built the way it is.

Where it picks up

Business for Teens runs on the Business Consciousness Scale β€” eight levels, from Victim through Mastery, taught through more than sixty film and documentary guides across five grades. That curriculum teaches your child to look at a business and ask one question: what is this actually pointed toward?

Marketing to Consciousness turns that same question around. It teaches your child to look at a customer and ask what they’re actually pointed toward β€” because the same consciousness framework that describes a business also describes the person a business is trying to reach, and a marketer who can’t tell the difference is guessing.

This isn’t a course about ad copy or social media tricks. It’s a course about the fact that roughly 80% of any market, 15%, and 5% are operating from three genuinely different places β€” different beliefs about themselves, different reasons for buying, different definitions of what even counts as trustworthy β€” and a message built for one of them will often fail, or backfire, on either of the other two.

Why "which segment" matters more than "which platform"

Here’s the problem with most marketing instruction aimed at teenagers: it teaches a handful of universal tricks β€” write a good hook, add urgency, use social proof β€” as if they work the same way on everyone. They don’t. A message built on urgency and comparison will convert a customer who wants relief from responsibility and actively repel a customer who is quietly running their own verification process before they’ll trust a word of it.

That gap is the one we built the whole course around closing. Every grade begins with a real customer avatar β€” not a demographic checklist, but a specific person with a real problem, real language, and a real reason for buying β€” and builds outward from there into the attention, tone, proof, and closing mechanics that actually reach that person honestly.

Every segment also gets its honest and dishonest version of nearly every technique, tested against a plain question the course returns to constantly: does this describe something real, or does it just look like it does? A teenager who can tell the difference between urgency that’s true and urgency that’s manufactured has a genuinely rare skill β€” one most people who work in marketing professionally are never taught directly.

Built for the business your child is actually building

Every avatar, funnel, and campaign in this course is built and rebuilt for a single real business your child chooses in Grade 8 and carries all the way through Grade 12. By the final capstone, that one product has been marketed three completely different ways β€” and your child has had to answer, in writing, which of those three approaches their own business is actually for, and what that choice costs them.

This is deliberate. The course runs alongside Business for Teens, and the two are never really separate. One teaches your child to read consciousness in a business. The other teaches them to read it in a customer β€” and finally asks the same question of the marketer they are choosing to become

What the five grades cover

Grade 8 β€” Customer Avatar Foundations. Six sessions building the core skill: reading real signals β€” language, attention, tone β€” to identify which of the three consciousness segments a customer is actually in, and building a full avatar for each one.

Grades 9 and 10 β€” Marketing to the Wilful/Reactive Segment. Twelve sessions on the 80% of any market: the beliefs and wants underneath it, honest and dishonest attention and closing techniques, a full funnel and campaign built for 2026’s actual platforms and tools, and a dedicated ethics session on the line between meeting people where they are and exploiting where they are.

Grade 11 β€” Marketing to the Intellectual Segment. Six sessions on the 15% who run their own evaluation process largely without you β€” why long-form, evidence-first content and honest comparison outperform urgency here, and a full campaign rewrite proving the same product needs a genuinely different approach.

Grade 12 β€” Marketing to the Intuitive Segment. Three sessions on the smallest, quietest 5% β€” why almost none of the previous four grades’ tools apply, why this segment can’t be funnelled or closed in the ordinary sense, and a final synthesis capstone bringing all three segments together for one product, side by side.
