Instructions for the Teacher / Workshop Leader :

1. Form Small Groups and Establish Connection

  • Group Formation:
    • Have students form small groups of 6-8 people.
    • Arrange themselves in a circle with enough space in the center for one person to stand comfortably.
  • Build Rapport:
    • Encourage students to greet each other.
    • Establish a sense of connection and openness within the group.

2. Select a Volunteer to be Blindfolded

  • Choose a Volunteer:
    • Pick one student from each group to be the first to stand blindfolded in the center.
  • Explain the Purpose:
    • Inform them that they will experience the subtle influences of collective energy.
    • The rest of the group will witness and reflect on the power of their shared intention.

3. Prepare the Blindfolded Participant

  • Instructions for the Blindfolded Student:
    • Stand at ease once blindfolded.
    • Feet shoulder-width apart, arms relaxed at sides.
  • Relaxation:
    • Encourage them to take a few deep breaths.
    • Let go of any tension or expectations.
    • Be present and receptive to whatever unfolds.

4. Guide the Rest of the Group

  • Focus on Connection:
    • Ask the surrounding students to bring attention to the space of connection and unity between them.
  • Acknowledge Collective Power:
    • Encourage them to silently acknowledge the power of their collective presence.
    • Recognize their shared energy and intention can influence the experience of the person in the center.

5. Explain the Leaning Exercise

  • Teacher’s Role:
    • Move from group to group.
    • Silently point to one person in each circle.
  • Group Action:
    • When someone is pointed at, everyone in the circle (except the blindfolded person) gently leans their body towards that person, as if drawn by an invisible force.
  • Safety Reminder:
    • Keep feet firmly planted on the ground.
    • Maintain focus and attention on the blindfolded person.

6. Observe the Blindfolded Participant

  • Encourage Observation:
    • As the group leans, observe what happens to the blindfolded person.
  • Notice Subtle Changes:
    • Does the blindfolded person begin to lean in the same direction?
    • Pay attention to any subtle shifts in posture, balance, or energy.
  • Witness Collective Influence:
    • Silently witness the power of the group’s collective influence.

7. Reset and Move On

  • Return to Neutral:
    • After a few moments, signal everyone to return to a neutral standing position.
  • Proceed to Next Group:
    • Move on to the next group and repeat the process.
  • Silent Reflection:
    • Encourage students to acknowledge and appreciate the experience.
    • Reflect on any insights or questions that arose.

8. Share Experiences and Reflections

  • Group Discussion:
    • Once everyone has had a chance to be the blindfolded person, have students share their experiences.
  • Discussion Prompts:
    • What did it feel like to be influenced by the collective energy without seeing where others were leaning?
    • What did you notice about the power of shared intention?
    • How are we connected and affected by one another in subtle ways?

9. Close the Exercise

  • Rearrange the Space:
    • Have students rearrange their chairs back to their normal configuration.
  • Grounding:
    • Take a few deep breaths to ground themselves.
  • Integrate Insights:
    • Encourage them to integrate the insights and experiences they’ve had.

Questions for Reflection and Discussion:

  1. What was your experience of being the blindfolded person in the center of the circle?
    • Did you notice yourself leaning in the direction of the group’s energy, even though you couldn’t see where they were leaning?
    • What did that feel like in your body and mind?
  2. As a member of the circle, what did you observe about the power of collective energy and intention to influence the person in the center?
    • Were you surprised by how easily and unconsciously they were swayed by the group’s movement and focus?
  3. What implications does this exercise have for our understanding of the ways in which we are all influenced and shaped by the beliefs, behaviors, and energies of those around us, often without our conscious awareness?
  4. How can we develop greater discernment, autonomy, and critical thinking in the face of collective influences and pressures?
    • What practices or perspectives might help us to stay true to our own values and intuition, even when they go against the majority?
  5. In what ways might this knowledge of the power of collective consciousness be used for positive change and transformation, both in our personal lives and in the world at large?
    • How can we harness the energy of shared intention and unity to create a more just, compassionate, and aware society?

Song: Invisible Currents

Verse 1:
Blindfolded in the center, standing still
Surrounded by a circle, feel the thrill
Unseen forces start to play
Gently swaying, can’t explain

Pre-Chorus:
Are we puppets on a string?
Or part of something more freeing?

Chorus:
Invisible currents, flowing through
Shaping thoughts we think are true
In the blindness, we can see
The power of unity

Verse 2:
Lean together, silent and slow
Watch as energies begin to flow
One mind, one heart, one subtle push
The center follows, in the hush

(Pre-Chorus)
(Chorus)

Bridge:
Question the norm, stay aware
Of hidden influences everywhere
Together we’re strong, but we must choose
Which currents to ride, which to refuse

(Chorus)

Outro:
Eyes now open, lessons learned
About the tides we’ve never discerned
In this dance of you and me
Lies the key to being free
